We all want to hammer Google, the monopolist. The smart move is for the DOJ et al to settle.
Google’s been declared an illegal monopoly in two Federal courts. And if you read the decisions you can’t help but want courts to hammer the company - to break it up. But that’s actually not the best move here. The goal should be to keep Google from leveraging its monopoly into AI. That means speed of resolution is essential. If the DOJ et al play hard ball, we’re in for years of litigation. That might give Google time to do exactly what we don’t want it to do - use its monopoly to get an unfair advantage in AI. The DOJ et al should find a way to settle. We’ve seen this movie before with the Microsoft trial 25 yrs ago. We already have a good idea how it’ll end. So let’s speed up the process. Here’s my argument in detail over at CrazyStupid Tech.
